I am so excited about the things I learned this semester. I never really saw how much students need technology in the classroom. Students need this stimulation, because they are stimulated this way in every other facet of their lives. The top ten tech tools that I can no longer live with out are:
1. Anitmoto: I am so excited about this movie making tool for my students to use. I would also like to use it for an anticipatory set to use during my lessons.
2. Glogster: I used this in my second lesson and my students and I both loved it. It is a quick and easy way for students to make a "bulletin" board that is online. It is easy to assess and shows the students learning.
3. Wiki: I have not used wiki's in my class yet, but I plan to use them in my classroom. They are a great interactive site to use and have students edit as well.
4. Promethean Boards: I love my promethean board. My students use it on a daily basis and so do I. We use this to take notes, complete projects, play games, etc. It is on all day long in my classroom.
5. Digital Cameras: I have my students taking pictures all day every day. They take pictures of their classwork, themselves, and many other things. This is a great way to build community in the classroom. Students like to document their fifth grade year.
6. Document camera: I use my document camera daily. The students use it when they are sharing what they have done in each subject. We have a closing for each subject and the students use it to share and get feedback on their work from their peers.
7. Brain Pop: I use brain pop all of the time for the short videos and quizzes that go along with them. I use it to grab the students attention to a new topic.
8. email: I use my email daily to communicate with parents. I love being able to talk to my parents all day long and get automatic feedback.
9. iPhone: I also use my iphone to contact parents about behavior at any time during the day. I also use my cellphone as a timer for students transition time. Siri is a great way to easily speak to the phone and start timers or create reminders.
10. Kindle: I use my kindle as a read aloud. I allow my students to use the kindle as well. They can check it out from me to use. It is great for students to use because of the dictionary feature!

What mobile apps are available for your subject
area? List and describe at least 4 apps that could be used on a
smartphone, iPod, or iPad in the classroom. There are mobile apps for
education sections in each of the subject area chapters in the Roblyer and
Doering book.
In fifth grade I teach all subject areas. There are lots of applications on an ipad that can be used for improving math skills.
1. Math Fact Master- it is a $0.99 it includes a challenge or flashcards. It has students practicing all of their math facts; addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Students can use it to gain fluency in their math facts. This is a great remediation tool.
2. Spelling Doll: This spelling application is a free app for iphones or ipads. It designed for 4th and 5th graders. Students are able to test their spelling and practice their vocabulary. They can choose their own spelling list and then pick words from their own list to practice. The students can use the screen to type the letters and spell the words that are called out.
3. States and Capitals: This app is a free app to test the students ability to know the 50 States and their capitals. This app shows the students a certain state and will show a star over the capital and give the students three options to choose from. It will also show a whole map of the United States and have a certain state highlighted and will give you 3 states to choose from. This is a great way to give students practice learning all of the states and capitals in the United States.
4. JogNog- This is a free app that is for ipads or iphones. Students can take quizzes over any subject. You can pick a subject and an area to focus on and it will quiz you based on your state standards. The students earn coins, like a game, for each quiz that they take. This is a great way to review content taught in each subject area.
