Should Wikipedia be forbidden in students' Social studies research?

I think that students should be able to use Wikipedia in some cases.  Some Wikipedia sources have very good information and can help students gain some background knowledge as well!  Wikipedia also allows to to see if the source is credible or not.  If the information needs more sources, a warning will pop up on the screen to let you know that this site may not be the best source to get information from.  I know as a teacher, I use Wikipedia many times myself to figure out things I don't know, so why wouldn't I let my students do the same?

  1. You make a good point when you say if you use Wikipedia, why can't the students. Some would counter that you would be more digital responsible and go further to locate expert support when needed.
